Mexico City Sightseeing

Mexico City offers an abundance of sightseeing opportunities, and is rich in archaeology, architecture, art, culture, history, and nature.

The National Museum of Anthropology (where Sri Swamiji will perform Surya Deva Raga Sagara) is located in Chapultepec Park—both are among the top sights in Mexico City.

National Museum of Anthropology (Museo Nacional de Antropología)Located in Chapultepec, the National Museum of Anthropology houses four square kilometers of exhibits in 23 exhibition halls and is considered to be one of the most famous archeological museums in the world. It is the largest and most visited museum in Mexico, and has a particular focus in Aztec and other pre-Columbian cultures.

Chapultepec Park (Bosque de Chapultepec): one of the largest municipal parks in the world, Chapultepec covers nearly 1,700 acres in Mexico City. It is an important ecological space, serving to replenish oxygen to the city and refresh water aquifers, provide a home for up to 60 species of birds and a refuge for migrating birds, and act as a preserve for many plants and animals. The park also houses a number of museums and notable buildings, most famously the National Museum of Anthropology (Museo Nacional de Antropología) and Chapultepec Castle (Castillo de Chapultepec).

Historic Center of Mexico City (Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de México): The historic city center, commonly known as Centro Histórico, is a five-square-kilometer UNESCO World Heritage Site boasting more than 1,400 important colonial buildings from the 16th to the 19th centuries.. The historic center is focused on Zócalo (Plaza de la Constitución/Constitution Square), the largest plaza in Latin America which has been a gathering place for Mexicans for over 700 years. The many attractions surrounding Zócalo include the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Templo Mayor.
